Onshore projects

The energy transition is changing the demand for the transmission grid of 50Hertz. To improve the transport of power to consumption centers, we want to replace a series of 220 and 380 kilovolt overhead lines onshore with ones with a higher capacity. We have implemented the South-West Interconnector as a new electricity link from north to south. Together with the transmission grid operator TenneT, we are planning the DC cable SuedOstLink, which will primarily transport renewable energy from the north to Bavaria. SuedOstLink

The SuedOstLink planned by 50Hertz is one of the most important new transmission lines between northern and southern Germany that are needed for a successful energy transition. This high voltage direct current (HVDC) power link between Saxony-Anhalt and Bavaria, with its approximated length of 540 kilometres, should be operational in 2025.

Grid reinforcement of 380-kV high-voltage transmission line Röhrsdorf-Weida-Remptendorf

The existing 100 km-long 380-kV overhead line between Röhrsdorf in Saxony and Remptendorf in Thuringia is currently operated at 2500 ampere per electrical circuit. It should be upgraded to a current-carrying capacity of 3600 ampere in the future.

380-kV Berlin diagonal power link

As a result of the energy transition, certain current flows are changing considerably. This requires new lines, while other lines have to be reinforced. One of the lines in high demand due to the growth in renewables is the 380-kV diagonal power link running across Berlin. 50Hertz is planning an urgently needed capacity upgrade in the years to come.

380-kV overhead line Pulgar-Vieselbach

In the scope of the expansion and retrofitting of the transmission grid in the northern and eastern part of Germany, 50Hertz plans the construction of a replacement 380 kV overhead line between the substations Pulgar near Zwenkau (Saxony) and Vieselbach near Erfurt (Thuringia).

380-kV overhead line Bertikow – Pasewalk

The 380 kv overhead line connecting Pasewalk and Bertikow is intended to ensure security of supply in the region. To this end, 50Hertz is replacing the existing 220 kV EHV line between Pasewalk and Bertikow with a more powerful 380 kV overhead line.

380-kV overhead line Güstrow – Parchim Süd – Perleberg

A 220-kV overhead line runs between the substations of Güstrow in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Perleberg in Brandenburg. Its capacity should be increased to 380 kV. The planned overhead line should for the most part run along the existing line route for about 100 kilometres.

380-kV overhead line Perleberg – Wolmirstedt

50Hertz is planning the replacement of the available 220-kV line between Wolmirstedt and Güstrow with a current-carrying capacity of 1,070 amperes by a more powerful 380-kV line with a 3,600 ampacity.

380-kV overhead line 'Nordring Berlin'


Along the A10 north of Berlin, 50Hertz is replacing the current 220 kV line with a 380 kV EHV overhead line, which will connect the Brandenburg substations of Neuenhagen bei Berlin and Wustermark.

The South-West Interconnector

The South-West Interconnector is a 380 kV overhead line, constructed by 50Hertz in three sections between Bad Lauchstädt (Saxony-Anhalt) and the Thuringian border with Bavaria.

Uckermark Line

50Hertz is planning an EHV line from the Prenzlau region to Neuenhagen bei Berlin. With this project, 50Hertz factors in the growing segment of renewables in Brandenburg.

Grid connection of the Jessen/Nord substation

The increasing share of electricity generated from renewable energy sources requires the reinforcement of the grid in the Falkenberg-Herzberg-Jessen region. To this end, 50Hertz is constructing a new substation near Jessen in Saxony-Anhalt.

380-kV overhead line 3rd interconnector

This overhead line of European significance, a transition between the German and Polish transmission systems, is being constructed between Eisenhüttenstadt in Germany and Plewiska in Poland. Polish TSO PSE-O and German TSO 50Hertz are working together as partners to ensure the success of this project.
